TOP 20 BREEDS

There has been some changes in the placement of the various breeds
in the Top Ten Breeds based on the number of puppies registered per
year. However, Siberian Huskies have managed to stay on top, consis-

tently for the past five years. Following closely is the Shih Tzu which was
also consistently in second place for the last five years. Slowly climbing

up in the ranking to take the third slot is the Belgian Malinois, which five
years ago was only in the seventh slot. At the rate its going, it might
inch up to the second slot by 2021.

The number of imported dogs saw a major decline. From 1,429 in 2019,
the number shrank by more than half at 711 in 2020. This is not surpris-
ing considering the air travel restrictions brought about by the COVID

19 Pandemic.

Topping the list by breed was the Welsh Corgi (Pembroke) at number
1 followed by the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky in second and
third respectively.

In 2020 the source country of choice when it came to importation was

Thailand, followed by Vietnam and Russia at second and third places,
respectively.
