Interview with
Prof. Ma. Rocio de Vega
PCCI Quarterly interviewed Professor
Maria Rocio de Vega a few months ago. The
interview was a walk back to the history of
the PCCI through the eyes of one of the
longest serving past presidents of the Club
giving a glimpse of how the PCCI evolved
through the years to what it is right now,
a huge and vibrant pure-bred dog owners’
organization.
When did you start with dogs?
There were dogs in my family even before I
was born.
What kind of dogs?
My grandfather used to import German
Shepherd Dogs from Germany. I can’t
remember this, but I was told that we were
one of the very few people in Manila who had
Japanese Spaniels.
What was the name of your
grandfather?
Don Antonio Lozada. He was a lawyer.
1997, with Mr. Aramis Lim, who was a PCCI All-Breed judge at a PCCI When was this?
All-Breed Dog Show held in Greenhills Xavier School Gym It was in 1930s before the war.
When you were born, what was the first breed that you recognized?
It was GSD, but the GSD then looked entirely different from the GSD of today. The breed has evolved. The type
was different 50 years ago.
What was your first purebred dog?
I had a Japanese Spaniel when I was as a child. It was one of the dogs of my grandfather. They called him Choto.
After that, we had also Cocker Spaniels. My very first dog that I considered a companion in life was a Toy Poodle.
Where there any dog shows at that time?
None that I know of. The only dog shows that I know began with the PCCI during the time of Ms. Hannaford but
I was not active in it then.
