S ome breeds seem to be destined for mass acceptance and stardom. One such breed of purebred dogs

is the Siberian Husky. From being considered a rarity in the 1990s, it has risen to become one of the
most recognizable and the most popular breed in the Philippines today.

In recognition of the breed’s contribution to the country’s purebred dog scene (number 1 in terms of
registration for several years now), we are featuring some very interesting articles on Siberians Huskies.

• On the cover, we feature the most illustrious Siberian Husky that made our country her home. Sylvie
(Topas Silver Lining) was #1 Siberian Husky in the US and won Best of Breed at the Westminster Kennel
Club Show before starting her campaign in Manila. She was also the top Siberian Husky in the Philippines
for a time having won numerous Best in Show and Best in Specialty Show awards.

• We interviewed two of the most active and visible breeders of the Siberian Huskies. Ms Sidney Bascon
and Dr Alan Ong share with us their experiences / insights on the breed.

• The FCI Breed Standard of the Siberian Husky, which should serve as a reminder to all Siberian Husky
breeders and future breeders of what their efforts should produce and to exhibitors as to what the ideal
Siberian Husky specimen should look like.
